If you’re planning to pack your laptop in your checked luggage when taking a flight, think again. According to NBC News, when packed, “personal electronic devices like laptops,” could ignite huge fires, which could cause a plane to go down. The FAA recently shared research with the U.N. which shows that when a “laptop’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery overheats” near “an aerosol spray can, it can cause an explosion.” The explosion could disable a plane’s fire suppression system. A proposed packing ban will be discussed next week at ICAO’s panel on dangerous goods.
